If coffee suddenly makes you feel anxious, jittery, exhausted, or wired after 40…
you’re not imagining it.

And honestly?
It may not actually be the coffee.

So many women over 40 and 50 feel like their body suddenly “turned against them.”

Things that used to feel fine … coffee, fasting, late nights, pushing through and suddenly it hits differently.

But your body isn’t broken.

It’s communicating.

Coffee Doesn’t Create the Problem — It Reveals It

Have you ever walked into a messy room and really looked around and instantly feel frustrated? Annoyed even.

Maybe you frantically started tidying up and wondered why you can’t do a better job of keeping on top of the clutter.

The funny thing is the only time you actually see the mess and react to it, is when you turn on the over head light.

The light didn’t create the mess…

It just made it impossible to ignore the piles of books or laundry you still need to put away or even the dishes that need cleaning up.

For many of us, me included, we know what’s going on but we’re not willing to turn that bright overhead light on.

It's why coffee feels different after 40

You probably already know that coffee is a stimulant.

But it doesn’t create energy… it pulls ON the energy you already have. It can drain your body even when your system is:

  • Well rested
  • Supported with good food and thoughts
  • And regulated with all of the walks in nature and meditation you do.

Coffee feels great. I know the good feelings coffee creates. It’s why I’ve gone back to coffee after giving it up 6 times

But when your system is:

  • Running on stress
  • Low on reserves
  • A little wired already

Coffee doesn’t feel good anymore. It starts to turn on that bright overhead light and it’s turns up the brightness like a volume button on your stereo

You’re not reacting to coffee… you’re reacting to the state your body is already in.

It’s why in my coaching I follow the clues our body sends us. I use 5 key biometrics: sleep, hunger, moods, energy and cravings.

Using them we can follow how your body responds to different metrics.

And it helps explain why you’re waking up at 3am, staring at the ceiling running through tomorrow in your head, or some other ridiculous loop you find yourself in.

Because it's not random that you're craving sugar in the afternoon or...

After a healthy meal at suppertime. Just like coffee, sugar cravings are often revealing stress already happening underneath

And it’s not random your energy crashes at 3 pm or 7 pm and then suddenly you’re wide awake full of creative ideas at 10.

It’s all connected.

They aren’t random. They’re patterns.

So instead of asking:

“Should I quit coffee?”

The better question is:

“What if I supported my body before I stimulated it?”

Because that 3am wake-up?

It’s is a combo nervous system response… Sleep is a surrender moment but if your body isn’t wired for deep restorative sleep right now, it’ll wake you up, night after night.

It’s like your body is leaving you little breadcrumbs throughout the day…

But if you only look at the coffee… you miss the whole breadcrumb trail.

It might not be coffees fault after all. You just need to learn how to support your enery naturally

It’s crazy… but it’s also incredibly helpful and exciting when you start to see it…..because none of it is random.

Your body is constantly trying to answer one question:

“Am I safe… or am I under stress?”

It’s kind of like your body has a dimmer switch… not an on/off switch.

And when you wake up, have coffee on an empty stomach, rush into your day, maybe even exercise without fuel…

You’re cranking that dimmer switch all the way up.

By the time you get to the afternoon?

There’s nowhere left to go… except to switch the light off and sometimes crash or run to sugar to switch you back on again.

This is why something as simple as adding protein before coffee… or before exercise… can completely shift how you feel.

And this is the part I want you to hear clearly:

There’s nothing wrong with you.

Your body didn’t suddenly become “sensitive” or “broken.”

It just shifted.

What used to work… isn’t working anymore.

Not because you’re failing.

But because your body needs something different now.

And it’s why  I created The Stop Blaming the Dryer Workshop

Because most women think coffee is the issue… but it’s actually just the most obvious place your body is waving a flag and jumping up and down trying to get your attention.

The workshop, is all about small shifts that actually change your energy without taking away the things you love. Yes, like coffee!

So no… You don’t have to quit coffee.

But you do want to understand why your body is reacting the way it is.

Because that reaction?

That’s the clue.

If you’re sitting there thinking…

“Okay… this is me… but I don’t know what my body is actually trying to say…”

That’s exactly where I’d start.

Go take the Hidden Clues quiz.

It’ll show you where your body is… and what it’s asking for support first.

It takes out the guesswork.

And if coffee + energy crashes are your thing specifically…
go check out The Stop Blaming the Dryer Workshop.

And remember…Your body isn’t working against you.

It’s trying to get your attention.  You just have to know how to listen
